Girls Weekend | Willamette Valley
Hi! I’ve been looking forward to sharing our girls weekend in Willamette Valley with you all for a little while now, YAY! I got a little busy over Thanksgiving with my momma in town and tried to be as present as possible while she was here. Life has been busy, SO sorry for the delay. This trip was one for the books and I hope after reading this you’ll be inspired to take a trip to Oregon (specifically Willamette Valley). I didn’t realize just how gorgeous this state is, and how much there is to see and do. OREGON, I LOVE YOU!
Willamette Valley, Oregon. We flew into Portland (PDX) but stayed in Carlton, Oregon, a small town in close distance to the wineries. The drive from Portland to Carlton was about an 1-1.5 hours, not bad at all. I have to note that all 7 of us rode in a rental van, that we named Berta. She was the real MVP.
Girls trip, of course! Our girl Tasha connected all of us girls (7 of us total, counting Tasha) and basically planned this whole trip. She’s the best trip planner I know, so well traveled. Most of the girls are from OKC- where Tasha lives, one from Ohio and then ME-Arizona. All lovers of wine and adventure, we knew we had to check out this mini Napa Valley.
The Carlton Farmhouse
We stayed in the cutest restored farmhouse in the heart of Carlton. Carlton is a small, charming gem. I had no idea what to expect, all I saw were some online pics of the house prior to coming (which doesn’t do it justice). I LOVE small towns and this place had some great restaurants & shops. I fell in love. Back to the farmhouse- GORGEOUS! The curb appeal had me googly eyed right off the bat. The backyard was also so inviting with a huge farm table that was decorated for fall at the time, perfect for gathering the group and sippin’ wine. Every little detail in this house was stunning. Shiplap ceilings and walls, freshly painted white walls, refinished original hardwood floors, chandeliers everywhere and a huge front porch. I adored the front porch. I went out there a few different times to sit on the rockers. The kitchen was very unique with open wood shelving; everything from silverware to dishes on display. I loved this & the way thing’s were placed so decoratively. We spent a lot of time at the huge dining table, which seated all of us perfectly. We gathered there for breakfast, dinner, games & girl talk. Best part of the dining area? The wine fridges! So handy, especially being in wine country. The couch was comfy too, so necessary for early morning coffee and late night chats. Upstairs were 3 bedrooms, a stair landing area which was basically a bedroom because of the fold out couch + curtain to close it off and one full bath. We all slept comfortably and had PLENTY of space. There was another full bath downstairs right off the kitchen. This rental house is great for a family or a group of friends.
The surround system throughout the house was so clutch while getting ready. Only downfall was when Tasha blasted it the last morning to get our asses out of bed…wanted to strangle her….HA. Kidding T! It was definitely needed sometimes. If you walk out the door you’re literally in walking distance from the downtown Carlton area which is a small strip of restaurants + shops. We went out for dinner and drinks two different nights and had a blast! The small town feel hit very close to home. Something to note is NO taxi’s or uber’s in Carlton, so plan ahead if you want to venture to other nearby towns (which we did).
Our main reason for choosing Willamette Valley was because of the many wineries, so I definitely need to tell you where we went. With many options, we could’ve debated on where to go for days but LUCKILY, we didn’t have to! Tasha did her research and we booked with the best transportation/wine tour company in the valley, Pinot Car. Our whole day was planned for us, from start to finish. A girls dream!
Our driver, Shawn, was seriously the most hilarious and sweetest person to be around. He picked us up out front of our house in the AM & was a few mins early-such a gentleman. He was punctual, brought us lunch to one of our vineyard tours and was such a good sport for my many Instagram stories. Shawn was also so knowledgeable about the valley and full of interesting stories. We couldn’t of asked for anyone better, Shawn was THEE BEST.
We went on 4 different tours, all beautiful locations with the tastiest wines. We started at Saffron Fields then went to the following: Solena, Fairsing & Soter. I seriously could’ve hung at these places for hours. The atmosphere, views and service were impeccable. I probably couldn’t pick a favorite, each place had something special & unique about it. We started our day by an outdoor fire pit at Saffron, then, made way over to Solena where we gathered in a big log cabin type atmosphere. We had our lunch here too in their HUGE, gorgeous kitchen! After lunch we headed to Fairsing which sat on a huge hill, talk about gorgeous views. OK-If I had to pick best views, this was my favorite. Our last stop was Soter, this tasting was so personable as we were taken to a private log cabin in the woods to enjoy our wines. I ended up buying a bottle of Pinot there to take home because it was so delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, this was a day I could do over & over again. This was also my first time on a Vineyard tour and I can’t thank Shawn & Pinot Car enough for the experience.
If you’re looking to do more than just wine tours, I highly suggest checking out the following places: Cascade Head Lower Viewpoint, Otter Crest State Scenic Viewpoint, Devil’s Punchbowl Arch, Yaquina Head Lighthouse & Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area. From Carlton these points range from 1-2 hours, but well worth it. We took a full day to adventure to ALL of these places & I’m so thankful we did. The coast was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. The color of the water, the seals + whales, huge waves crashing the rocks- I was in awe. We watched the sunset on the beach after having some apps and beers at Pelican Brewery. IT WAS BREATHTAKING. Oh- we also got Berta stuck in the sand……..hahaha.
The girls made a grocery run before picking me up from the airport, as my flight was the last one in. Since we had a full, gorgeous kitchen at the farmhouse, we ate a lot of our meals there. We did eat out two different times in Carlton- We went to Barrel 47 & The Farmers Plate & Pantry. Both places had great ambiance + food! We also went to Pelican Brewery, which I mentioned above. This place is right on the beach in Pacific City. The vibe was definitely my style and felt like a true Oregon hangout. Other than thaaat, cheese & crackers during tours and lots of wine. duh. 😉
BEST girls getaway! I’m so thankful for the new friendships I made on this trip and the new places I was able to explore. I will definitely be back Oregon, hopefully sooner than later. PLEASE ask me ANY questions you have about this trip! I tried to cover everything, we definitely made the most of our time there. Below is booking info for The Carlton Farmhouse & Pinot Car.
