I’m finally catching up on some blog post and i’m particularly excited to share this one with you guys! Justin and I did a 1 day-1 night staycation at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar in Downtown Phoenix last month and had a great time! We stayed the Saturday after his 30th birthday so it ended up being a little birthday getaway too. Staycation’s are so much fun, they honestly feel like a quick vacation from reality (As any vacation does, but these are typically shorter!) Even though we moved to the area 9 months ago, we haven’t explored too much of the city so this was a treat! Below is my little breakdown of our stay!
Kimpton Hotel Palomar located in Downtown Phoenix (CityScape)
Perfect location! If you wanted to leave the hotel you are definitely in walking distance of other attractions such as dining, entertainment, shopping and the Talking Stick Resort Arena. We didn’t have a reason to leave since we dined in but next time I’d love to walk the area!
The whole hotel is just stunning. I loved walking around and admiring all of the detail. They did an excellent job with the interior design. The hotel is clean, modern and very unique!
We had a gorgeous king suite that featured a living room space, HUGE bathroom and a view of the city. I really loved the decor of the room as well! Small details such as cute pillows, lamps and blankets made this room so chic. The room also came with a fully stocked fridge (items were for purchase), a full length mirror (which made getting ready so nice) and plenty of SPACE. When we first arrived it was around 11am and Justin wanted to watch some of the golf that was on. The living room area was nice for that! I, of course immediately opened up the champagne and admired the room until it was time to head to the pool!
We made way to the pool around noon to get some sun and have some cocktails. This third-floor rooftop pool is such a cool spot! The pool was pretty busy, we were lucky to snag two chairs. There isn’t a TON of seating, but enough! The views of the mountains from the pool are so cool and the whole vibe was on point. Music playing, people having fun and Lustre Rooftop Bar right beside the pool area made for a great day. Servers come around to the pool for drink/food orders and the staff was very friendly. The pool does get shaded early afternoon, that’s probably the only downfall. The pool is open to the public which is pretty awesome if you live in the area!
After a few hours at the pool we were STARVED! Luckily, Lustre Rooftop Bar is beside the pool area and has a full bar as well as plenty of dining tables. The menu was impressive as well! I ordered a salad and Justin had tacos, we both enjoyed the food. Another thing to know is- Monday-Friday 3pm-6pm is Happy Hour! On the weekends Lustre turns into a nightlife hot spot around 10-11pm and is open til 12am. We enjoyed this scene after our dinner later that evening!
After lunch we headed back to our room to relax for a bit and get showered/cleaned up for our dinner reservations. I actually ended up taking a nap (too many cocktails, oops) and I believe Justin watched some TV. Attached to the hotel lobby is Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails, an adorable spot for lunch, dinner or happy hour.
“Our menu pairs seasonally inspired, chef-driven cuisine with handcrafted cocktails, a curated wine list, and a variety of microbrews. Our vegetables and produce are sourced within the community and are supplied direct to us by farm partners.
You’ll find food-friendly spirits, including sherry, port, beer, vermouth, and table wine, on our cocktail list. The barkeeps in these parts know how to leverage one of the Valley’s largest menus of brown spirits, supplemented by top-notch gins, house made tinctures and syrups.”
We first ordered delicious cocktails off the extensive Drink Menu (I cannot remember what I ordered and I’m sorry!), then decided what we wanted to have for dinner. Our waiter suggested that since I was doing a media stay that we should have them bring out popular items so we could get a little taste for everything. We were ALL for this idea, as we both love to try new foods! The waiter brought out so many different plates curated by the Chef and everything was beyond delicious! Appetizers, salad, main course, we were in heaven! To name a few favorites: BHKC Deviled Eggs, Boudin Balls and the Pork Shank. Can’t forget dessert- CHOCOLATE CAKE. Even though Justin said he didn’t want dessert, once he saw that scrumptious cake he just couldn’t resist! lol! Right next to our table was the door to the outdoor patio area where we enjoyed a drink and the view of CityScape!
We truly were treated so special and we were beyond pleased with our experience at Blue Hound! From the hospitality, food, service and atmosphere- so amazing! Thank you to the Chef for giving us a little taste of everything, our waiter for being so friendly and wonderful and to the Manager, James, for introducing himself to us and making sure we enjoyed our dinner!
That wraps up our Staycation at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar. After dinner we went up to Lustre Rooftop Bar to enjoy music by the Dj and have a few more drinks.
We had a fantastic time , it was so nice to get away from everyday life for a little bit and have a weekend together! We will definitely be back, but for a whole weekend next time. We will also be bringing Bruti along when that time comes as they are 100% pet friendly! My brother loves to watch Bruti so we had him babysit while we were gone.
